Many, many people have already stopped attending Mass and/or stopped supporting the Church. Of course, they should be encouraged to attend Mass. And, to support the Church, an alternative should be arranged. It is entirely in keeping with Canon Law and the Moral Teachings of our Faith for a trust fund to be established that is completely controlled by the Faithful. Such a fund should allow the faithful to send money earmarked for a particular parish, diocesan endeavor, school, or for general use in support of the Diocese and its parishes. A regular notice should be sent to the Bishop and affected Pastors or Administrators letting them know the money is available and encouraging them to send bills or other requests for specific help. In this way, the faithful can still support the Church in good conscience, the Bishop does not control the money, and the faithful can still obtain a tax exemption.
